Loss Control

The process of controlling insurance claims begins long before an incident occurs and continues well beyond the filing of the claim. Controlling claim costs means providing an environment where incidents are rare, employees are respected and rewarded, injured workers are cared for, and controls are in place.

The most effective means for controlling claim costs involves implementing comprehensive safety and training programs, and ensuring that proper controls are in place to reduce the likelihood of a claim. The key components necessary to reduce the likelihood of claims include:

  • Commitment by all personnel
  • Clearly defined policies and goals
  • Safety inspections
  • Training
  • Accident reviews

Central Mine Services, Inc. also provides on-site loss control services for 150 to 200 surface and underground mines, including coal, metal, non-metal, aggregate and other energy-related operations. Since 2001, the company has conducted over 1,000 reviews in 37 states. During the loss control survey, mining, processing and material handling operations are reviewed.
